Creating A Magical Christmas At Home With The Grandchildren
Christmas is an extremely magical time for the whole family.
If you’re on the lookout for exciting activities to do with your children at home this year, then we’re here to help!
Here are 5 things that little people love to do with their grandparents at Christmas!
Get Crafty: Design Christmas Cards
It’s time to get the glitter out!
Arts and crafts are a must over the festive period – it’s also a relatively low cost activity that will keep them entertained for hours.
A great idea is to channel their creative juices into making some Christmas cards. They can then give their special creations out to other family members on the big day. Just be prepared to be on cutting out duty so they can stick some special star and snowmen decorations to their masterpieces.
You can also keep a couple of their designs back to show them when they are older.
Get Your Bake-on: Show Them How To Bake Some Festive Treats
Christmas is definitely a time for eating – and we’re not complaining!
We think the best treats are the home-made ones.
As we all have our very own special ways of creating the perfect mince pies and Christmas bakes, this is a great time to pass on our secret recipes to our grandchildren.
Not only is baking a great skill to teach them (who knows they could be a future Bake Off winner) but it’s also a super fun activity!
So make sure to teach the little ones the rules of the kitchen, and keep the sharp items out of reach.
If you need someone to taste a mince pie or two, Colin is always on standby!
Watch The Christmas Classics: From A Winter Wonderland To Elf
Everyone has a favourite festive film right?
Well why not take it in turns to select a Christmassy classic every time the grandchildren pop by?
Christmas is definitely a time to watch some special films that evoke some even more magical memories.
You can watch some of their favourite modern movies including Frozen and Elf to start off the movie night. You can gradually introduce them to some of the films that made your Christmases as a child special, from It’s a Wonderful Life to a Miracle on 34th Street.
Just grab a couple of bags of popcorn and a few blankets then hit play on the tv!
Show Your Competitive Streak: Get The Board Games Out
Who doesn’t love to play a board game at Christmas?
Dust off the monopoly and get your lucky socks on, it’s time for the grandparents to take on the grandchildren.
You could always get a treat for the lucky winner, for example a bag of chocolate coins – they’re Colin the cow’s favourites!
Hide And Seek – But With Elves!
If you’ve got young grandchildren you’ve probably heard of Elf on the Shelf.
However, if you aren’t quite familiar with this activity, a new Christmas tradition is to hide elves around the house in unique places, often doing mischievous things for children to find.
For a little bit of fun you can hide some around your house so that when they visit they can go on a hunt to see what the elves are up to!
With a stairlift to help you get around the house with ease, there’s nothing holding you back from getting inventive with where you hide them.
