5 Peaceful & Gentle Walking Spots
Across The UK

There are so many beautiful walking spots across the UK that hold a special place in all of our hearts.

We all have our favourite places but sometimes it’s nice to mix up our walks and discover new, peaceful, spaces.

Especially as we get older – something a little easier on the knees is never a bad thing.

If you’re looking for a few more gentle walks to add to your list, then here are our suggestions…

The Wirral Way, Merseyside.

The Wirral Way is an old railway line that has been transformed into a tranquil walking route.

The scenic path goes from West Kirby to Hooton with plenty of stops along the way. There are car parks throughout the walk as well, so you can decide where to start and finish based on what you feel you can handle.

We recommend stopping off at Thurstaston to see some incredible views of the Dee Estuary and Wales. There are also toilets at this stop and some tasty coffee shops to break up your walk.

Heddon Valley, Devon.

Heddon Valley is a majestic, scenic spot down in Devon.

With incredible coves and cliffs, it’s an absolute pleasure to take in the sights of the Valley.

The National Trust have also worked with Countryside Mobility South West to create two accessible routes starting from the Heddon Valley.

These routes are available for all-terrain mobility scooters and pushchairs. So if you’ve got the grandchildren and want a gentle stroll amongst some beautiful surroundings, definitely take this path.

If you’re finding walks slightly more challenging you can still take in the peaceful Devon air by bringing your mobility scooter, or hire out one of the National Trusts’.

Dalby Forest, Yorkshire.

Dalby Forest is a woodland dream for people of all ages to enjoy.

Surrounded by pinecones, conquers and plenty of wildlife there’s a lot to love about this peaceful walking spot.

The Lakeside Trail is a good route to take if you fancy a short but sweet explore. This trail takes you along a well-surfaced path that spans half a mile and circles the Staindale Lake.

There are plenty of other relaxing trails to take a wander down in the forest if you want something a little longer.

Peak District National Park.

The Peak District is undoubtedly a national treasure.

It’s probably already a place that most of us have enjoyed walking around at one time or another. The vast greenery that surrounds the walking routes creates a mindful space that you are guaranteed to enjoy.

Are you put off visiting as you’re finding expansive walks slightly more difficult these days?

Well you don’t need to, as the ‘Miles Without Stiles’ initiative has highlighted routes that are well-surfaced and easy access routes without stiles, steps, or steep gradients.

Therefore if you have limited mobility or need to use a wheelchair, you’re in luck – you’ll still be able to enjoy some beautiful views and historic landmarks. The initiative was even honoured by Accessible Derbyshire – so you’re in very safe hands.

The Jubilee Loop, London.

For our city lovers that are looking for a gentle walk, you need to try the Jubilee Loop.

This walk is around 2 miles and blends beautiful parks with historical landmarks. You can relax in James’s Park and then stop by the tourist’s favourite – Westminster Abbey.

On this walk, it’s really up to you as to how your experience will be. You can avoid the hustle and bustle or you can embrace it wholeheartedly. You can even stop by a few independent coffee shops to re-fuel mid-walk.

When considering ‘walking spots’ you probably don’t think about cities. However, the Jubilee Loop has so much to excite the eye that we couldn’t not include it.

Where will you go?

The decision is all yours!

Will you stay local or travel further afield?

Whatever you decide to do, we hope these walking spots find a special place in your heart as they have done with ours!
